Samson Kiprotich Talaam Faces Murder Charges in Nairobi Court

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has brought a case before the High Court in Kibera, Kenya, naming six individuals accused of murder. On June 23, 2025, the court received charges against Samson Kiprotich Talaam, James Mukhwana, Peter Kimani alias Kim, John Ngige Gitau alias Kinara, Gin Ammitou Abwao alias Gilbeys, and Brian Mwaniki Njue. The Director of Public Prosecutions alleges these individuals acted together in the alleged crime.

The charges state that on the night of June 7 to 8, 2025, between 9:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., the accused jointly killed Albert Omondi Ojwang at Nairobi’s Central Police Station. The prosecution claims the act occurred with others not currently before the court. The case stems from an incident that authorities investigated, leading to the formal accusation filed on the 23rd day of June 2025.

A senior assistant director of public prosecutions, Jalson Makori, signed the charge sheet, acting on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The document specifies the offense as murder, referencing Section 203 as read with Section 21 of the Penal Code, Chapter 63 of Kenya’s laws. The court now holds the responsibility to review the evidence presented by the prosecution.

The accused individuals await their initial court appearance to enter pleas. The case has drawn attention due to its setting within a police station, raising questions about security protocols. Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the incident or the investigation’s progress at this stage.

The trial’s outcome may influence future oversight of police facilities in Nairobi. Both the prosecution and defense will present their arguments, with the court scheduled to proceed in the coming weeks.
