Every once in while, the Kenya Gazette drops a wealth of legal updates, corporate shifts, and state appointments that directly shape the country’s business landscape. The edition published on 29th May, 2026 (Vol. CXXVIII—No. 95) is no exception.

From massive mining applications to high-profile state corporate shifts and the full “Kenyanisation” of what remains of a currency printing giant, here are the key highlights you need to know.

De La Rue’s Final Act: The Monarch Capital Acquisition

The biggest corporate headline in this Gazette notice involves the historic transition of De La Rue Currency and Security Print Limited.

According to Gazette Notice No. 8217, the Competition Authority of Kenya has officially authorized Monarch Capital Limited to acquire 100% of the company’s shareholding.

To understand why this is a milestone, here is a quick look back:

  • 1963: De La Rue begins its long-standing relationship with Kenya, printing the nation’s first banknotes and later setting up a local subsidiary in Ruaraka, Nairobi.
  • 2019: The Kenyan Government (via the National Treasury) buys a 40% joint-venture stake in De La Rue Kenya EPZ Limited to recoup currency printing costs through profit-sharing.
  • 2023: De La Rue winds up its local currency printing operations entirely, leading Kenya to partner with Germany’s Giesecke + Devrient (G+D).

What happens now? The entity being bought by Monarch Capital is De La Rue Currency and Security Print (K) Ltd—the remaining arm left behind after the 2023 banknote printing exit. This buyout officially marks the full Kenyanisation of De La Rue’s remaining local footprint.
