The publication also included corrigenda, and this follows recent scrutiny in the cooperative sector, specifically involving the Afya Sacco and the troubled Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (Kusco). The Commissioner of Cooperatives has placed both societies under inquiry. Kusco, in particular, has been at the center of a major scandal where it was reported that over 1.2 billion Kenyan shillings in member savings were allegedly misappropriated, leading to a crisis of confidence and legal action against its former officials. Additionally, the notice included an intention to dissolve hundreds of companies for non-compliance with regulatory filings. One company of particular note on the list is Huduma Capital Limited, which shares a name strikingly similar to the government’s prominent “Huduma” public service brand, raising questions about its nature and activities prior to being slated for closure.
