Babu Owino: A Learned Friend in the Classical Mold

Paul Ongili, known as Babu Owino, reflects the classical image of a learned friend, blending diverse knowledge with law. Born in 1989 in Kisumu’s Nyalenda, he faced poverty and police harassment, with his mother brewing chang’aa to survive, fueling his resolve to succeed through education.

Owino excelled at Kisumu Boys’ Secondary School, earning an A-minus in 2005, then graduated with First Class Honours in Actuarial Science from the University of Nairobi in 2012. A four-term student leader, he later earned a Master’s in Actuarial Science, a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Law, and pursued a third Master’s in Economics, alongside a 2023 honorary Doctorate in Political Leadership.

His admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya on May 23, 2025, celebrated on Facebook, showcases his unique skills. Actuarial Science honed his analytical mind, while economics deepened his grasp of societal issues, enriching his legal practice beyond mere law.

Owino’s multidisciplinary background sets him apart, enabling him to address Embakasi East’s challenges with insight. His journey from hardship to advocacy proves his commitment to justice through broad learning.

As a learned friend, Owino bridges law with other disciplines, embodying the classical ideal of a scholar advocating for the public good.
